Maintaining your piano's tuning not only makes for beautiful music, it can also pay for itself in the long run by preventing major repairs. Your piano's sound board was designed to be under tension with a high degree of precision. Beyond regular wear and tear, major deviations in sound board tension can result in unexpected damage. Have your piano tuned at least once per year, and consider seasonal tuning.
The standard tuning rate applies to seasonal, semiannual, or annual tuning. A typical appointment is two hours in length. The goal with standard tuning is to achieve near perfect pitch with an emphasis on balance and harmony suited to the unique characteristics of your piano. Deviations in pitch greater than fifteen cents (which is a common result of overdue tuning) will require a pitch raise (see below).
If your piano is flat by more than fifteen cents (which is a common result of overdue tuning), we will need to schedule up to three hours to bring your piano back into a reasonable pitch range prior to fine tuning. A follow-up standard tuning may also be necessary to help stabilize the pitch. First-time clients may be eligible for the standard tuning rate even if a pitch raise is needed. Please inquire.
If your piano needs to be in absolute perfect pitch and regulation— whether due to personal preference or public performance—we will need to schedule four hours or more to regulate the action followed by several passes of fine tuning. Concert tuning cannot be achieved in conjunction with a pitch raise. Concert quality instruments should be tuned no less than seasonally (i.e. quarterly).
The above rates apply to tuning only. Minor repairs (e.g. string replacement) may be quoted and invoiced separately, including material and/or labour expenses. Major repairs (e.g. replacing the pin block) may require the services of a guild technician.
The above rates are inclusive of travel for local service calls. Long distance service calls (>30km radius from downtown Sudbury) are subject to the standard Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) per km vehicle rate.
